A communal couple-and-group dance from Chiloé, known for changing formations and lively social interaction.
The dance links an island repertoire with older South American circulation of the pericón family of dances. Two couples arrange facing or crossing patterns, coordinated turns and handkerchief gestures. Versions vary between social gatherings and staged folklore. Memoria Chilena traces its circulation into Chile in the nineteenth century and its presence in Chiloé from approximately the 1830s.
