Urban cueca of singers and neighbourhoods: powerful voices, layered rhythm and improvised energy.
It broadens the image of cueca beyond rural costume. It is an archive of city voices, humour, musicians and collective memory. Dancers keep the paired conversation and circular movements but respond to a more forceful vocal style and the character of the venue. There is no one mandatory set of steps. The style is closely associated with twentieth-century urban cuequeros and recordings by Los Chileneros, including musicians such as Hernán “Nano” Núñez.
