Iceland's Dances

Iceland

Vikivaki — A historic Icelandic circle-dance tradition performed to sung verses and refrains. Vikivaki was especially common in earlier centuries and is an important part of Iceland's cultural heritage.

Sagnadansar (Ballad Dances) — Group dances where participants sing narrative ballads while moving together in rhythm, combining music, storytelling and community.

Revived Icelandic Folk Dances — Modern Icelandic folk dancing, performed by folk dance groups, draws on historical traditions and Nordic influences. Dancers wear the traditional national costume (þjóðbúningurinn), often with live accordion or violin music.
